7 Essential Ways to Take Care of Your Skin This Summer!

7 Essential Ways to Take Care of Your Skin This Summer!

The sun is so important to our overall health and skin health, but as we all know, it can also be severely damaging. You should still get outside and bask in the sunlight – just remember to take the proper precautions first! Here are 7 of my favorite tips to help you soak up the sun (safely!).

Hello, sunshine! Sunlight provides crucial benefits we could all use right now. The sun provides vitamin D, which can help you fight diseases, reduce depression through the release of serotonin, and boost weight loss. It has also been proven to prevent skin aging, and calcitriol (the active form of vitamin D) helps in skin cell growth, repair, and metabolism!

The sun is so important to our overall health and skin health, but as we all know, it can also be severely damaging. You should still get outside and bask in the sunlight – just remember to take the proper precautions first! Here are 7 of my favorite tips to help you soak up the sun (safely!):

Always Rely on SPF

Here’s my #1 secret to maintaining youthful skin: make sure to always wear sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher, no matter the weather. Lather on the sunscreen on all exposed parts of your skin at least 20 minutes before you step outside. Don’t forget your ears, lips, hands, and feet! Reapply your sunscreen every couple of hours – set an alarm on your phone as a reminder!

Reassess Your Skin Care Routine

You wouldn’t wear a winter coat in the heat of summer, right? The same goes for your skin. Adjust your skin care regime for the hot and humid days on the horizon. Depending on your skin type and where you live, you may need a different, lighter cleanser or moisturizer.

Give your skin what it craves! My skin care line is meant for all skin-kind, regardless of age, race, gender, and skin type. You can choose from several levels to help your skin adjust and thrive during the summer months, and each product is packed with only the essential ingredients you truly need – and absolutely NO B.S.

Keep Moisturizing

Sorry to say, but sweat doesn’t count as extra moisture for your skin! All skin needs hydration to thrive – even if it’s oily, acne-prone skin or totally soaked in perspiration. You need to take time every day to cleanse your skin from environmental toxins, pollutants, and protein debris with the appropriate cleanser for your skin type. Follow up with a moisturizer every AM and PM to keep your skin hydrated.

Want an extra reason to moisturize? The sun’s harmful UV-A and UV-B rays won’t be able to cause nearly as much damage after you apply a moisturizer!

Invest in a Solid Vitamin C Serum

Vitamin C is essential all year long, but it’s even more important during the summer. This multi-tasking vitamin prevents hyperpigmentation, improves fines lines, and can help with collagen production.

Keep in mind that not all vitamin C products are created equal. You’ll want a product that contains Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate – a.k.a. the purest, most potent, and most easily absorbed vitamin C. My anti-oxidant vitamin serum’s unique formulation of vitamins C, D, E, F, and K is a workhorse that lessens skin discoloration, restores bright, firm, and radiant skin.

Oh, and it plays very well with your sunblock. Apply it under your sunscreen to significantly enhance your protection from the sun and reduce UV-A and UV-B damage!

Stay in the Shade

We should all make sure we are getting the proper amount of sunlight, but we must protect our skin from the sun’s harmful effects as well. Before you head out, grab your favorite pair of sunglasses and a wide-brim hat that not only looks stylish but also protects your face!

You’ll also want to avoid the midday sun as much as possible (from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) – that’s when the sun’s harmful rays are at their strongest! If you must go outside at that time, cover up and wear sunscreen with a 30+ SPF and reapply it every few hours.

Up Your Hydration Game

Water is always important for our body (including our skin, of course!), but it’s even more essential during the summer. Shoot for about 8 glasses of water every single day. I know it sounds like a lot, but trust me – your skin will look luminous and supple when you give your body enough water!

Did you know that staying hydrated can also help your skin recover after you get a sunburn? That’s even more reason to keep a full tumbler of water nearby this summer!

Repair and Treat Sun Damage

I hate to break it to you – a tan actually indicates skin damage, and that’s never a good look! Hyperpigmentation, especially in the form of sunspots, will usually appear hours after you spend time in the sun without the proper protection. Fortunately, adding vitamin C to your daily skin care routine can help reverse and treat the damage. Look no further than my anti-oxidant vitamin serum, which uses its trademark-pending blend of vitamins C, D, E, F, and K to lighten and brighten your skin while protecting it from daily oxidative stressors.

Want to up your defense? Add my pigment refiner in your AM skin care routine. Exposure to UV light ramps up your pigment production, but my pigment refiner uses safe, science-based pigment inhibitory actives to minimize, repair, and pigment unevenness concerns. Just apply it in the morning after a cool splash of water!

BONUS: Add the All-New Hyaluronic Hydration Myst to Your Skin Care Arsenal

This summer, protect and future-proof your skin by taking advantage of my all-new product, the Hyaluronic Hydration Myst! It’s a lovely all-day skin refresher that creates a gorgeous, just-out-the-shower effervescence.

Here’s why you’ll want it: it harnesses the power of malachite, a sacred stone from Ancient Egypt with a powerful cellular protective and detoxifying capacity. Rich in copper, zinc, peppermint, spearmint, calming eucalyptus, and essential amino acids that act as the building blocks for your skin proteins, the Hyaluronic Hydration Myst contains nothing artificial, just like the rest of my products.

Best of all, it won’t ruin your makeup or sunscreen. Just hold it at arm’s length and spritz under and/or over your sunscreen, any time of the day, to seal your skin with a delicate veil of hyaluronic acid to combat “maskne” and protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays!

Now more than ever, we need sunlight. Get out there, take a walk, go for a bike ride, sit on the porch, or have an adventure – just remember to follow these tips to protect and nourish your skin!
